In a text message Elizabeth Shenton, the Lib Dem candidate in the Crewe & Nantwich By-election, thanked the Haltemprice & Howden contingent for its help in the by-election campaign. Although the Lib Dems were running third in the contest and polled just 14.6 %, down 4 points on the General Election result in 2005 both Elizabeth and Nick Clegg, the Lib Dem leader were pleased with the result.

Along with members of the Hull local parties the H & H contingent helped to deliver nearly 2,000 leaflets on the day as well as stuffing envelopes and working on campaign literature.

The next electoral test will be at the Henley by-election where the Lib Dems are the main challengers to the Tories.
